The NL West has certainly been the Wild, Wild, Wild West this MLB betting season as the unexpected has come be the expected and the perennial awful San Diego Padres (55-39) are now the toast of the National League. In a stunning about face this perennial cellar dweller has been at the top of the division standings for most of the season has the second best record in the NL baseball betting action.
The San Francisco Giants (53-43), however, are lurking and with the Rockies (51-44) in a bit of a funk and Dodgers (51-45) stuck in a slide this is the perfect chance for them to gain ground in the NL West baseball betting standings.
The Giants opponents in this NL West matchup couldn’t have been easier as the Arizona Diamondbacks (37-59) are simply terrible. They have the second worst record in the NL and have won just 24 baseball betting contests on the road this year (24-26). The team can’t hit and it can’t pitch, and its players who have any talent are simply waiting to be traded. Not a great situation for a team to be in and generally a poor formula for MLB betting success.
But the D-Backs have an intriguing pitcher starting this game, Barry Enright (2-2, 2.66 ERA), that could make things interesting. Enright has just four MLB betting starts to his name so there’s not really a large body of work to draw from, but he’s kept his ERA down through 23.2 inning in 2010 and if can hold the Giants to a 1 or 2 runs Arizona has a chance. And that’s not all that impossible considering the Giants highly mediocre bats.
But the Giants get the nod in this baseball betting contest as they’ll be sending two-time reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum to the mound. Lincecum has been the best pitcher in baseball over the past two seasons and after a slow start to the ’10 action he’s right back where he needs to be and chasing a third straight Cy Young Award. His 10-4 record is best on the team and his 3.18 ERA has been steadily shrinking.
Lincecum will get his 11th win Arizona and the Giants will hope to gain a game on the Padres.
