It’s ironic that on this Tuesday, July 13, 2010, “THE BOSS” of baseball, New York owner George Steinbrenner lll died of a massive Heart attack in Tampa, Florida, and he was 80. He was a giant and a visionary man of baseball who took a troubled franchise and turned the Yankees into Champions. Under his direction the Yankees won Seven World Series and eleven American League Championships. He was a true NEW YORK ICON!
It’s certain that some type of tribute will be given at tonight’s All-Star game honoring this New York “BOSS’ of Baseball!
Tonight’s All-Star game will be a real challenge for the National League since they will be trying to break a 13 game winless streak as the haven’t won a All-Star game since 1996, and of course tonight the American League team is the favorites. Check out the MLB All-Star Betting lines and MLB All-Star Odds for tonight’s game.
This game for all purposes is like an exhibition game with the exception that the winning team will be awarded home field advantage in the World Series Match-up. Both the American League and the National League have a lot of pitching talent but it appears that this year the National League has a slight advantage. For this game the MLB player who received the most votes was Minnesota’s Joe Mauer who had 5.3 million votes, which is the 3rd highest total in All-Star History.
It is said that with all the young pitching talent in MLB, that this is the “Year of the Pitcher” It used to be that throwing pitches in the upper 80’s and low 90’s was very impressive, but not any longer as the young guys are blasting the severe speed near 100 mph. At this time there is an abundance of young pitching talent with not only great stuff, but they know how to pitch in the tough division series.
For the National League they have Jimenez who will start and is 15-1 with an ERA of 2.20 then comes Johnson who is 9-3 with an ERA of 1.70 that is tops in MLB. Then in the Bullpen they have 2 time Cy Young winner Lincecum and Hallady. On the other hand the American League counters with starter from Tampa Bay, David Price who is 12-4 with an ERA of 2.42 and Cliff Lee. What affect will this have on the MLB All-Star Betting lines and MLB All-Star Odds for this 81st All-Star game?
