The Cincinnati Reds lead the National League Central division by two games over the St. Louis Cardinals but they are not sitting still vs. the MLB betting odds as they have added outfielder Jim Edmonds in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds sent Chris Dickerson to the Brewers in exchange for Edmonds.
MLB odds really heat up this week as the Reds host the Cardinals in a three-game series. The Reds have not made the playoffs since 1995 but they are in prime position this season. The Reds wasted no time in putting Jim Edmonds into the lineup as he is scheduled to hit fifth on Monday against St. Louis starting pitcher Chris Carpenter.
The Reds saw Edmonds a lot as he was with the Cardinals from 2000-2007. Jim Edmonds will get a chance to beat his former team as a member of the Reds. The Reds are expected to give Edmonds a lot of playing time as they have not been happy with the production of Drew Stubbs or Jay Bruce.
Stubbs has started in just one of the last seven games and he is hitting just .234 with 14 home runs. He has really had a problem with strikeouts as he leads the team with 112. Bruce has had a power outage this season as he has just 10 home runs and is batting just .258.
Jim Edmonds wanted to play for the Cardinals this season after being out of baseball last year due to injury. The Cardinals did not offer him a contract during spring training while the Brewers did. He hit .286 with eight homers and 20 RBIs in 73 games with Milwaukee and was a player who could impact MLB betting odds.
The Reds are giving up Dickerson who has been out for most of the year due to an injury.
