On paper this should be a great MLB betting matchup, or at least it was in March. Both of these teams had great potential heading into the season but only one team has been living up expectations. The St Louis Cardinals (54-42) struggled a bit in the first half of the season but now look as if they’ve caught their second wind and are crushing balls at the plate and the pitching staff is overwhelming baseball betting opponents. After briefly falling from the top spot in the NL Central the team is now back on track in the MLB betting standings and has a 1.5 game lead over the Reds.
The Cubs (43-53), however, have been garbage. This team is a perennial under achiever and the best thing manager Lou Pinella can do to help this team is to walk away at the end of the season. The pitching never lives up to its billing and the bats are never as good as they should be.
When these two teams meet up in the MLB betting action on Sunday the only good thing that can be said for the Cubbies is that they will at least be playing on hallowed grass of Wrigley and they can count on a good Sunday afternoon crowd.
That being said Cards should trounce the Cubs in this baseball betting contest.
The Cards will be starting former Cy Young winner and ace, Chris Carpenter (11-3, 3.05) ERA). Carpenter has been his usual splendid self on the mound and has been getting great run support which makes him almost impossible to beat.
Chicago will be trotting out a pretty decent pitcher in his own right, Carlos Silva (9-4, 3.86 ERA) but he’ll have a much more difficult task than Carpenter. Carpenter can pitch at 70% and still get a win in Chicago as the Cubs have no real threats in their lineup and he can probably count on decent run support from his teammates. Silva will have no such luck and he’s got to pitch to the beast in the middle of the Cards lineup (MVP Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday).
