Mississippi State University is hardly a college football betting hot bed but with a win over #21 Auburn this Thursday this team has a chance to make a name for itself and perhaps even crack the Top 25 in the AP Poll.
The Bulldogs have long been an SEC doormat but since the arrival for Former Florida assistant, Dan Mullen, this team has been surrounded in an optimistic buzz and coming off a 49-1 pasting of Memphis in their season opener there is plenty of reason for this team to be excited. The team tallied 569 yards of total offense in week one and gave up 237 yards on defense –including a paltry 41 yards on the ground.
Granted, the #21 ranked Auburn Tigers are much more substantial team and things won’t be quite so easy going against a fellow SEC rival this week, but even the sports betting experts think the Bulldogs have a chance against the higher ranked Tigers.
Kickoff for this Thursday matchup is set for 7:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global opened with the Tigers as a 2-point favorite with an over/under total at 56 (-110).
That’s about as tight a betting line as you’ll see and game should be a battle to the death.
Both teams boast impressive offenses as the Tigers racked up over 600 yards of total offense in their season opening win over Arkansas St. New starting QB Cameron Newton is a dual-threat QB who wowed scouts with a 177-yard rushing performance complimented with 186-yard passing day and accounting for 5 TDs total.
On the flip side both of these teams have porous defenses no matter what the stat line might have read after their first game of the season. It’s difficult to tell how good or bad these team’s defensive units are against inferior teams but after Thursday we should have some idea. Auburn had one of the worst defenses in the school’s history last season but has brought a heap of young talent to help plug the holes and should be improved against Miss St. after giving up 323 yards passing in the opener.
Regardless this game should be a high scoring shootout and an interesting NCAA football betting opportunity.
