In what will be the best college football betting matchup of the season to date, the #3 Boise State Broncos will travel from Idaho to our nation’s capital to take on the #10 Virginia Tech Hokies in what should be the high point of this week’s football schedule.
Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:05 Eastern Time and sbg opened with the Broncos as a 2 point favorite with an over/under total at 51.
It’s not every day that a visiting team is favored against a top ten Hokies squad but Boise State is not your average team. This is a squad that that didn’t lose a single game last season (14-0) and returns most of its key weapons on both sides of the ball.
Paramount on the list of players that the Hokies must stop is QB Kellen Moore. Moore is on the short list of legit Heisman contenders and may be the best QB in the country. Last season he threw for 39 TDs and 3 INTs last season, the best ratio in NCAA history. In these two years as a starter he’s thrown for more than 7,000 yards and 64 TDs all while tossing just 13 INTs. It’s no accident that this team went undefeated or that he’s a serious Heisman contender.
If Boise State is going to win this NCAA football betting contest Moore will have to be huge as usual. He’s got a great set of receivers in Austin Pettis and Titus Young. The duo combined for 24 TDs and 142 catches last season and should be even better this year as their familiarity with Moore should be improved. The team also has a strong running game led by TB Jeremy Avery (1,151 yards, 6 TDs in ’09).
On the other side of the ball the Broncos defense is also sound. It gave up just 17.1 point a game in 2009 and returns most of its starters.
The two biggest areas of concern for Boise State are the Hokies defense, which is always one of the best and will put the Broncos questionable O-line to the test and Tech’s running game which features one of the most dynamic backs in the country (RB Ryan Williams).
