The Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech has been an ACC football power on the rise the last couple of years behind its wishbone triple-option attack and begins the 2010 college football betting season ranked #16 in the AP Poll. The team will host the South Carolina, State of the Football Championship Subdivision (translation: DI-AA) in the teams’ opener to this season’s NCAA football betting action.
The Yellow Jackets are a rare breed in modern college football as one of the only teams in D-I that still run a pure option style offense with a full house backfield. And for the critics who claim that today’s football players are too fast on the edge and can shut down the option any time they want, Tech showed them that that certainly wasn’t the case last season as the Yellow Jackets had one of the most exciting offenses in the country.
It doesn’t seem to make sense and defies logic but it’s the very same lack of option style offenses in college football betting these days that contributes so greatly to the Tech’s offensive success. Opposing defense have hard time preparing for this type of unorthodox attack and are often overwhelmed by it when they take the field. What the team does is so different than what the rest of the teams do that it’s very hard for defenses to acclimate to it with just several days of practice.
Last year the Yellow Jackets averaged 33.8 points per game and 422.1 yards per game with Junior QB Joshua Nesbit leading the charge.
This year many sports betting analysts believe that the team will be missing some of its steam as last year’s top rusher and receiver from that successful squad (WR DeMaryius Thomas and Jonathan Dwyer) bolted for the NFL.
Nonetheless the defense should be invigorated as former University of Virginia head coach, Al Groh, takes over coaching duties for that unit. After switching to a 3-4 defensive front, this group should be more effective against the athletic teams in the ACC.
Kickoff for this Saturday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbg global opened with the ??? as a ??-point favorite with an over/under total at ??.
Expect the Yellow Jackets to (quite literally) run over the top of their outmatch opponents.
