A new era has begun at the University of Florida but after witnessing a complete debacle in the team’s first NCAA football betting contest without Tim Tebow, Gators fans are already longing for the good old days. College football legend Tebow was a jack of all trade for this team and was highly successful. His replacement, John Brantley (the anti-Tebow), is a talented passer with a cannon of an arm, but he was awful in his start in the post-Tebow era.
Many of the offensive problems can be pinned on an O-line that was cobbled together after the unit was racked with injuries in training camp. But when a high powered offense, loaded with speed and talent like this Gators unit is, amasses only 17 total yards in the first half against a doormat opponent, there’s plenty of blame to go around for everyone.
If the Gators play at that same level this weekend against their instate rival South Florida they will lose the game and the 90,000 rabid fans at the Swamp just might riot, or worse. Kickoff for this Saturday matchup is set for 12:25 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Gators as a 15-point favorite with an over/under total at 50.
South Florida is not quite on par with the level of competition that the Gators will see once the SEC action gets underway but it’s much closer than what the team saw last week against Miami of Ohio. The Bulls are member of the Big East a very good team in their own right and this game will be no cake walk. The Bulls have nothing to lose and everything to gain, whereas the only way the Gators can come out ahead in this college football betting matchup is if they blow out South Florida by a cartoonish score and return some of their credibility in the polls.
After last week’s debacle, Florida dropped 4 spots in the national rankings to #8. It needs a big win in the worst way and with all that pressure this team just might fold. Last week a comedy of errors in the QB-Center exchange cost this team dearly. This should be corrected and the O-line should be much improved and Swamp fans will get to watch a much better version of their Gators this week.
Florida should win this college football odds matchup, but it may not be able to cover the 15 point spread.
