College football betting fans didn’t have to wait long to get a terrific matchup on the grid iron this year. Just four days into the 2010 season we’ve already got a blockbuster on our hands when the #3 Boise State Broncos travel to FedEx Field in Washington DC to take on the #10 Virginia Tech Hokies.
Kickoff for this Monday matchup is set for 8:05 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Broncos as a 2 point favorite with an over/under total at 51.
It’s unusual for the Hokies to be underdogs at ‘home’ but Boise State is a legitimate national title contender and, on paper at least, the better team in this matchup.
All Boise State has done the past four seasons is run up a 49-4 record, losing just one game the past two seasons and finished off another undefeated season last year (14-0). Its QB, Kellen Moore, is one of the best in the country and led this offense to 42.2 points per game in ’09 – the highest scoring average in NCAA football betting action last season.
It’s going to be a battle for Coach Frank Beamer’s Hokies but this team has a great shot at knocking off the #3 team in the country.
The success of this program every year begins with the defense. Somehow Beamer fields one of the best defenses in the country year after year and this season’s team should be no different. Last year it ranked 9th nationally and gave up just 15.6 points a game. Its pass defense was especially good giving up just 167.1 yards.
But this unit will be severely tested against the high flying aerial attack from Moore & Co. Fortunately for the Hokies they can afford to give up a few points as they’ve got a pretty good offense of their own this season.
QB Tyrod Taylor (2,311 yards passing, 370 rushing in ’09) is one of the most underrated players in the ACC and should get plenty of respect if he has a great game on national TV. Look for him to be the key to the Hokies offense which was dominated by the run game last year. The run component will still be huge for the Hokies as RB Ryan Williams ran for 1,655 yards and 21 TDs last year.
Bet against the college football odds in this one and look for Tech to win.
