The Auburn Tigers are back on the NCAA football betting map after an impressive performance in their home opening win and looking to march up the polls. A 52-26 drubbing of hapless Arkansas State was just what the doctor ordered for this traditional football powerhouse that has seen its program struggle the past few seasons.
Up next for the Tigers is a more substantial opponent in the form of SEC rival Mississippi State. The Bulldogs got their season off to a roaring start as well annihilating the Memphis Tigers to the tune of 49-7. New Dan Mullen has the fans excited season and the offense humming. Miss St. racked up a total of 569 yards on offense. The passing game was especially sharp totaling 372 yards in the air and 5 TDs.
But those stats are anemic when compared with Auburn’s opening game totals. The Tigers racked up a mind-numbing 608 total yards, 7 TDs and 367 yards rushing.
Obviously something has got to give in this SEC college football betting showdown and these teams aren’t likely to combine for 110 yards of total offense.
The Bulldogs are a much better team under Mullen and should give the Tigers a game. The team’s two-QB system was effective against a weak Memphis pass defense but it could crack up against a superior Auburn defense if it’s forced play from behind.
Auburn is the better team in this matchup and should win accordingly. QB Cameron Newton, a mountain of a man and a pretty good QB, dominated his week one opponent with his feet (171 yards rushing) and his arm (3 TDs). He should give a mediocre Bulldog defense plenty of problems.
Kickoff for this Thursday matchup is set for 7:05 Eastern Time and sbg global.com opened with the Redskins as a 2.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 38.5.
The Tigers should be 2-0 after their trip to Mississippi State but their defense has to get better. This unit supposed to be much improved from last season’s horrible performance but in week one against Arkansas state it gave up 366 yards. It will be better this week as Auburn will notch another win in the college football odds action.
