The Friday Night Lights in Texas won’t belong to the high school teams this week as a prime time college football betting showdown will steal their thunder. On September 10th the UTEP Miners will travel to Houston to take on the University of Houston Cougars in their Conference USA opener.
Kickoff for this Friday matchup is set for 10:20 Eastern Time and sbg global opened with the Cougars as a 13.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 75 (-110).
This late, late game will be televised on ESPN and should end sometime early on Saturday for viewers on the East Coast.
The Cougars were the highest scoring team in the NCAA football betting last year and at least through the first week of the season this offense picked up where it left off last season. In its week one opener Houston found the end zone over and over again scoring 10 TDs en route to a 68-28 drubbing of helpless Texas State University. The route may not be that impressive considering the level of competition, but consider that almost none of the starters played in the second half.
QB Case Keenum was terrific in his two quarters of action completing 17 of his 22 passes for 274 yards and 5 TDs. The only blemish on the day was the 2 INTs he threw. As a whole the offense was impressive rolling up 499 yards as the team won its 16th straight home game.
UTEP was also successful in its first game of the 2010 season beating up on Arkansas Pine Bluff 31-0. The team played without star RB Donald Buckram who missed the season opener but is likely to see action against Houston. If Buckram plays, he could be a game changer.
Last season the Cougars had their way with the Miners winning 58-41, but Buckram was the lone bright spot for UTEP rushing for 262 yards and 4 TDs. While his presence isn’t likely to change the outcome of the game he could be a huge factor in determining the over/under on this matchup.
Sports betting fans should expect a high scoring game and easy Houston victory.
