When most people think of Villanova University and sports betting, they think of the successful basketball program but what most people don’t know is that it’s actually the football team that is top dog on campus after capturing its first college football betting national championship last year.
What about Alabama? Surely you saw the Crimson Tide roll over the Texas Longhorns in last year’s BCS Championship game?
True, but the Villanova Wildcats won the NCCA football betting Division 1-AA championship against a tough University of Montana Grizzlies team in January. And for any sports fans out there that automatically want to discount the competition on the D1-AA level just think back to all the upsets last season of the lower division teams over the BCS eligible teams.
And don’t thing that the Wildcats are one-hit wonder or a flash in the pan as this team has plenty of starters returning from the college football betting championship squad and begins the season ranked as the #1 team in the D1-AA competition. The team received 22 of the 28 first-place votes in the first FCS Coaches Poll.
The Wildcats begin their title defense on September 3rd at cross town rival Temple. Kickoff for this Friday matchup is set for 5:05 Eastern Time and sbgglobal opened with the ??? As a ???-point favorite with an over/under total at ???.
Temple is hardly a football powerhouse. Its biggest claim to fame is former halfback Bill Cosby. But last year was a breakout season for this squad and its 9-4 record took everyone by surprise.
The biggest reason for the Owls turnaround was sophomore RB Bernard Pierce who set school records for rushing TDs (16) and total TDs in a season. He was also named the MAC freshman of the year as he led the conference in rushing with 1,361 yards.
However, this is a very poor passing team. It averaged just 145.4 yards a game in the air and it’s going to beat the D1-AA champ it’s going to have to do better than that.
The Wildcats have a tenacious D run defense and should be able to get the ‘road’ win and get their title defense off to a good start.
