Auburn Tiger football is finally back on the map with expectations sky high with the second-year head coach Gene Chizik leading the team into the 2010 college football betting action this Saturday against the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
Kickoff for this Saturday matchup is set for 7:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global opened with the Tigers as a 31-point favorite with an over/under total at 58.
For the first time in several years the Tigers will begin the NCAA football betting campaign ranked in the AP Poll’s top 25 (#22). This says a lot about the type of impact that Chizik has had on the program. There was a lot of popular outcry when the little known and little accomplished coach was hired two years ago but the proof has been in the pudding as he led this team to a winning record (7-5) in the ridiculously difficult SEC in his first season at the helm.
Heading into the college football betting action this season his Tigers will be one of six ranked teams in the conference and it’s no secret that wins are going to be hard to come by when the SEC schedule starts.
Last year the defense, long the backbone of this team, was awful. This year the team has restocked with plenty of talented freshman who should see plenty of playing time rotating in and out and providing depth where there was none last season.
All eyes will be on QB Cameron Newton, a mountain of a man (6’6” 250 LBs) who will be the key to success for this fast paced offense. If he can live up to the hype this Auburn team could be very dangerous. He’s got a cannon of an arm and move on his feet but questions about his accuracy persist. Newton has plenty of talent at the WR to throw the ball to and has a good, experienced back in senior Mario Fannin and an X-factor in the highly recruited freshman RB, Michael Dyer, who should get plenty of carries as well.
This game should be over before it begins as the Sun Belt conference Red Wolves simply lack the talent to play with one of the better teams in the SEC.
Expect the Tigers to win and win by a lot.
