No team in the sports right now is being crucified in the media the way the New York Jets (0-1) are right now after the team’s loss in the Week 1 gambling action. To read the local New York headlines you would think that this team was running a dog fighting ring, when in fact, all they did was lose one game by one point to a potential Super Bowl contender.
But don’t try and tell that to the New York papers. The Jets entered this season in no-win situation after being the most hyped team in NFL offseason history thanks to Coach Rex Ryan’s flamboyant style and off the cuff quotes –and, of course, having cameras follow the around training camp added some extra spot light as well.
But now that the NFL betting odds season is underway this team has to find a way to put all these distractions aside and get down to the business of winning football games.
Unfortunately for the Jest it won’t happen this week and the AFC east favorites in the eyes of many football pundits will be 0-2 heading into Week 3 of the NFL season.
On Sunday this team will host the New England Patriots (1-0) and it will lose.
The Pats are coming off perhaps the most impressive performance of any team in the NFL in Week 1, a 38-24 trouncing of very good Bengals team. The offense was firing on all cylinders, the O-line wasn’t nearly as bad as many people thought and Brady threw for 3 TDs -2 TDs to WR Wes Welker.
The defense was the real surprise though as a group of young talent in the secondary in the middle shut down a strong Cincy running game and forced Carson Palmer into several costly errors.
The Jets have little to feel good about after their loss to the Ravens. The passing game was nonexistent (Mark Sanchez threw for just 74 yards); the running game sputtered (116 net yards) and the mighty defense showed cracks in pass coverage.
The Jets will look better this week but the Pats will win this game.
