Whenever the big game roles around fair-weather betting fans come out of the woodwork and betting on the Super Bowl becomes an obsession among many sports fans that would normally not even think twice about placing a wager on a football game.

But the Super Bowl has some kind of power over sports fans in this country and for many people the Super Bowl will be the only wager they make all season. It’s hard to explain exactly why, but there are a number of theories.

One of the most obvious is the fact that their favorite team is playing in the big game. And this year, in Super Bowl XVL, that is quite certainly the case with many football fans.

The Pittsburgh Steelers (14-4) and the Green Bay Packers (13-6) are two of the most popular NFL franchises of all time and have heaps of fans not only around the country, but around the globe.

And so fans should expect record numbers of wagers placed on the Super Bowl odds this year. A closer look at the betting line would seem to reflect this as hordes of Packers fans and Steelers fans alike keep pouring money on the game and virtually equalizing the odds –that and the fact that these teams match up very well should keep this line tight until kickoff.

Kickoff, by the way, for this Sunday February 6th matchup is set for 6:30 Eastern Time and SBG Global sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 2-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

Most pundits are expecting a close game in this classic Super Bowl matchup and expect the game to be decided on the last possession of the game. Football fans should be so lucky, but there’s good reason to believe the hype.

Both teams have terrific defenses, ranked #1 (Steelers) and #2 (Packers) in the league, both of which should limit the scoring and keep the score close.

Also, both teams have accomplished QBs (Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers) capable of marching their teams down the field for a game winning score with time running out.
This won’t be an easy game to bet as the Super Bowl betting lines don’t offer much room wager, but if the game is as entertaining as it’s shaping up to be on paper, that might not be such a bad thing.

There is hardly a scientific method of setting Super Bowl odds but the men and women charged with this particular task seem to do a pretty good job. There are reams of stats that can be consulted, and past and present records, and recent head-to-head meetings that can be referenced, but there’s simply no way to account for the variable of playing on the grandest stage in all of sports and ultimately there is no formula.

This weekend, when the two weeks of super hype finally runs its course and the 6-time NFL champion Pittsburgh Steelers (14-4) finally take the field in Arlington, TX opposite the 3-time NFL champion Green Bay Packers (13-6) it’s going to be nearly impossible to predict a winner.

And that will make the Super Bowl betting especially challenging.

Kickoff for this Sunday February 6th matchup is set for 6:30 Eastern Time and SBG Global sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 2-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.

With just a 2-point spread there’s really not a lot of room for bettors in picking the outright winner. If you’re putting your money on the Steelers it makes sense to go for the outright win but if you like Green bay your options are a bit limited.

However, one betting avenue that’s often overlooked but might just be the ticket for Super Bowl XVL is playing the over/under.

Sure, it’s not a sexy play, but it might be the smart one if you don’t have clear idea of which team you like to win the game.

This game’s over/under at 44 is a pretty target to bet against. A quick look through some of the stats, reveals that this number isn’t all that rooted in reality.

The Packers averaged 24.3 ppg in the regular season and the Steelers averaged slightly less at 23.4 ppg.

But in the postseason the Pack is averaging a whopping 30.0 ppg while the Steelers are averaging a respectable 27.5 ppg in the playoffs.

So why is the over/under at 44?
These defenses are stingy, that’s why. During the regular season neither team gave up more than 15.0 ppg but in the playoffs they’re allowing 17.0 ppg and 21.5 ppg, respectively.

It’s difficult to reconcile exactly what these numbers mean in terms of a final score but if you’re thinking of betting on the Super Bowl a total of more than 44 points seems likely.

The Dallas Cowboys, the self proclaimed “America’s Team” coming off a 12-4 season with the roster intact and gunning to become the first team in history to play in a Super Bowl in their own city.

The Green Bay Packers entered the season with every reason to believe they’d win the NFC North and their high flying offense would lead them deep into the playoffs.

Both of these teams were leading NFC contenders for a Super Bowl bid and then the season started.

The two teams have been beset with injuries and poor execution and have just 6 wins between them. The Packers (5-3) are in far better shape than the ‘Boys (1-6) but neither has come close to living up to their promise.

Kickoff for this Sunday night matchup is set for 8:30 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 8-point favorite with an over/under total at 45.5.

Green Bay, if it can get healthy and find a running game, it’s got a chance of winning a playoff game. The NFC North is so rotten this season it’s hard to imagine any other team winning the division, handing the Pack the title almost by default.

In fairness to the Packers the team has been decimated by injuries to its starters on offense including RB Ryan Grant, TE JerMichael Findley and backup TE Derick Martin. Without a running threat the Green Bay passing game and QB Aaron Rogers have failed to live up to its potential.

If the Cowboys had the talent on defense they could exploit this weakness, but they don’t. So they won’t and they’ll likely give up a heap of points to the Packers. Dallas has one of the worst defenses in the league and is giving up 26.7 points per game.

Green Bay will be looking to head into their Bye Week (Week 10) with a win and try and heal up a bit. Dallas shouldn’t present much of a challenge and the Packers should win this sports betting sleeper without much problem.

Do not adjust your screen: this is not typo, nor is the author hallucinating; the lowly 2-5 Browns have a legitimate shot at upsetting the team with the best record in the NFL betting odds action.

Yes, the same Browns that have been the laughing stock of the NFL for the past several seasons. The same Browns team that has had 3 different starting QBs in the first 6 weeks of the NFL season and now currently has a rookie penciled at starter. The same Browns team has been plain awful for most of the 2010 NFL season.

The New England Patriots have the best record in football (6-1) and the top rated offense in the league (29.3 points per game) and arguably the smartest coach in the NFL.

But even with all these factors stacked against the Browns there’s also plenty of reason to think they might be able to pull off the upset this weekend, or at least beat the sports betting point spread.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Patriots as a 4.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.
The Browns are currently in the midst of a 1-game win streak and in Cleveland that passes for momentum. The team is also playing at home in the famed Dawg Pound and the fans will no doubt be up for this game.

Cleveland has struggled offensively for most of the season but with rookie Colt McCoy in the starting lineup the team has gone 1-1 and averaged 20 ppg, which is no small feat considering the opponents have been the 5-2 Steelers and the 5-3 Saints. During that span McCoy has thrown for 355 yards and completed 65.3 % of his passes.

The Browns will also have their beat in the backfield, Peyton Hillis (4.4 yards per carry, 5 TD), healthy again. Hillis is the type of bulldozing running back that can destroy the Pats defense and the kind that has given them trouble up the middle in the past.

Throw into play the fact that Browns are also coming off a bye week with an extra week for the staff to prepare McCoy for Bill Belichick’s exotic defensive schemes and the playing field gets leveled even further.

These variables don’t guarantee an NFL gambling victory for the Browns, but if you’re looking to bet on an upset this week, this game might just be your best option.

From virtually Day 1 of the season the Jets have been among the ranks of the top 3 or 4 teams in the NFL. With a 5-2 record they’re tied for the second best record in the league and once again the D is dominant.

But in Week 8 against a crippled Green Bay team that had lost 2 out of its last 3 games the Jets looked like the worst team in the league, losing 9-0 at home in one of the ugliest shuts outs you’ll ever see.

The Lions (2-5), on the other hand, have had no trouble scoring this season and if the Jets don’t figure some things out in a hurry they could suffer their second straight defeat to an NFC North team this weekend.

Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Jets as a 3.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 44.5.

New York should have dominated the Packers. The team was coming off a Bye week, was well rested and had plenty of extra time to game plan against a Green Bay offense that has been decimated by injuries to key players this NFL gambling season.

The defense played well giving up just 3 field goals but the offense was horrific. QB Mark Sanchez is still trying to prove he’s an NFL caliber QB but after a solid start he’s been awful the past few games and has 4 INTs in the past 2 games. On top of that he’s averaging just 193.7 yards per game, which has been mitigated somewhat by the Jets ability to run the ball (153.4 ypg on the ground) but it puts this team in a very bad spot if it gets behind early.

And that is distinct possibility against the Lions high flying offense.

Detroit may only have 2 wins on the season but over the past 4 games this team has gone 2-2 and averaged more than 30 points a game. With starting QB Matthew Stafford (4 TDs last week vs. a good Washington D) this offense looks it can score even more points.

The Jets defense has been exceptional again this season (15.7 ppg, 2nd best in the NFL) but its one weakness has been the passing game (218.6 ypg, and 10 TDs).

That’s exactly where the Lions will attack and that’s why Detroit has a good shot at upsetting the Jets in this sports betting matchup.

The New York Giants have gotten off to a tremendous star to the 2010 NFL betting odds season and look as though they’ll run their win streak to 5 games in row this weekend against the 4-3 Seattle Seahawks.

The Sea chickens are one of the pleasant surprises of the young NFL season and have a .5 game lead in the up for grabs NFC West. Under first-year head coach Pete Carroll this team has done better than most pundits expected and gone 3-0 at home this year.

However, Seattle will face its toughest challenge of the season so far when the Giants come to town this weekend.

Kickoff for this Saturday matchup is set for 4:10 Eastern Time and SBG Global Sportsbook opened with the Giants as a 7-point favorite with an over/under total at 41.

Seattle has improved in every facet of the game this season with an infusion of young new talent from the draft and some key off season acquisitions. Mike Williams the discarded and unwanted WR who played for Carroll at USC has emerged as a top Comeback Player of the Year Candidate and has been a key to the team’s offensive production. Williams has 33 catches and 375 yards through 7 games and leads the team in receiving. But he’s been one of the lone bright spots for a Seattle offense that has struggled in the NFL gambling action.

The Seahawks are averaging just 17.6 ppg and against cut throat defense like the New York Giants that won’t get the job done.

The Seahawks defense has been capable, giving up just 20 ppg, but that’s been against mostly inferior competition and against well-balanced Giants attack (25 points per game, 388.7 total yards per game) it should be quite vulnerable.

The Giants are currently the best team in the NFC –by a wide margin- and seem to only get better with every game. The passing attack, led by QB Eli Manning, got off to a rough start with Manning throwing 6 INTs in his first 3 games but its seems on track now as does the running game.

The Giants are averaging 145.4 yards per game on the ground and if that isn’t enough to grind the Seattle defense into submission the offense also has 14 passing TDs on the year.

The Giants are simply too talented for decent Seahawks squad and they’ll get the Week 9 sports betting.

This Saturday evening match-up between of two teams tied for second place in the PAC-10 with # 13 Wildcats of Arizona (7-1) against #10 Cardinals of Stanford (7-1) and Kickoff is at 8 PM EDT and is on ABC TV. Arizona leads this series 14-11-0 and in 2009 Arizona won 43-38. Check out the NCAA Betting lines at SBGGlobal.com.

This is this first time these two teams have met with each being ranked in AP Top 25 Poll. Both reams trail Oregon in Pac-10 and without a win it will be unlikely for an appearance in the Rose Bowl. This game is basically a match-up of the Stanford offensive line against the Arizona defensive unit. Basically the Stanford Cardinals have protected QB Luck well this season allowing only three sacks, while the Arizona Wildcats lead their conference with 27 QB sacks led by their defensive ends.

Join in on the Action at SBGGlobal.com Sportsbook and take advantage of the seasonal promotions for this fall football season. In the Watch for the Arizona Wildcats they have a WR Criner who has had a great season this far scoring 5 TD’s while amassing 786 yards on 49 receptions. This far he has 14 career TD’s on coming on receptions of more the 20 yards. Last week against UCLA he had a 42 yard reception for a TD. The for the Stanford Cardinals their Defensive end Masifilo made two sacks and was the center of the defensive unit that held the Huskies last week to a skimpy 107 yards. He also forced a fumble and 5 tackles.

That was the fewest yards ever allowed by a Stanford. Check out the NCAA Odds on this important Pac-10 game on Saturday. It’s interesting to look and some of the opponent statistics in that Stanford has eight games in which they scored a minimum of 30 points this season and on the other side Arizona has not given up that many points in a game all this season. In the Wildcats game against the Huskies last week they had 583 total yards on 88 plays. Then the Cardinals RB Taylor has had a least 100 yards rushing for the last five games. These types of Stats make a game more challenging.

The latest on the NCAA Football odds on this game is that Stanford is favored at – 9 ½ with the OV/UN 56 and on the Money Line Stanford is -345 and Arizona is +285. All Odds and Lines will move often as wagering volume demands.

Many rumors and lies have come out about SBG Global and in this Internet age that is really not surprising. Anyone can post anything on these forums and the public really has no way to know if what they are saying is true or not. Let’s take a look at what really happened with this SBG Global scam thing.

I am a sports betting expert so I have the ability to see through the posts and come to an unbiased conclusion. One of the issues was in regards to a Formula 1 futures wager that goes back to April of 2009. The wager was settled between the customer and SBG but oftentimes in the sports betting world that is simply not good enough. People want to continue to smear a company even after a settlement is made. Stories can really take on a life of their own long after they have been concluded. That is what happened with the SBG Global scam.

People continue to pile on when they didn’t even know the facts. SBG Global has a great reputation and has been around for over 15 years. Companies don’t last that long and have a lot of bettors without doing things right.

Posting forums are really a place where people can make unfounded attacks and smear a solid company. SBGGlobal has gone out of their way to defend themselves but on a posting forum that is never good enough. It is a no-win scenario. People can say anything and stay in the shadows. Defending yourself is always tougher than making an attack.

As a bettor that has used SBG Global for many years I can say that I have had nothing but a positive experience. I get paid on time and the customer service has always been excellent. It is not easy defending yourself against attacks and I respect the way SBG has handled things. The company is a solid sports book with a good long term reputation. Smear campaigns and lies on the posting forums won’t change that. Hopefully this gets some of the truth out regarding the SBG Global scam and that the issue can be put to bed. SBG has survived throughout the years and continues to remain one of the strongest books in the sports betting industry.

The only exception has been the Washington Redskins. And it hasn’t been for lack of spending money.

Flamboyant and hands-on owner Dan Snyder has routinely gone out and overspent on big name free agent after big name free agent but it’s yielded little in terms of NFL betting wins. He’s also gone through a carousel of coaches, some very good (Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs) and some very bad (Jim Zorn anyone?).

But it doesn’t take genius to figure out what you need to win the NFL betting action and that’s a QB. The Redskins are the only team in the NFC East that hasn’t had a decent QB in the past five football betting seasons and it comes as little surprise that it’s had little success in the division, winning its last NFC East title 10 years ago.

But this offseason the team finally cut the cord with the team’s beleaguered QB, Jason Campbell; a player whose skill set is best suited for the CFL and got themselves a real QB.

The beauty of signing QB Donovan McNabb is the fact that not only did the Skins get Pro Bowl starter but they also stole him from the division rival Eagles forcing them to start the football betting season with the untested, but talented, Kevin Kolb.

The team has one of the best O-lines around, a punishing running game when the RBs are healthy, and the defense is above average.

Throw in a 2-time Super Bowl winning coach in Mike Shannahan and this seems like the perfect recipe for NFL betting success. That NFC East division title that has eluded the franchise for a decade looks as though it might finally be within reach.

The NFL betting odds will likely favor Dallas as the top team in the NFC East but this Washington team could very easily be at the top of the standings in January.

It’s a pretty novel thing to see two brothers on opposite teams in the NFL Gambling matchups starting at QB and playing against one another. In fact the case of the Manning brothers, Eli and Peyton, is one of the most interesting stories in NFL history as both are highly successful, both have won a Super Bowl and their father Archie was a pretty decent QB in his own right.

But all that pedigree means nothing when these two teams square off this weekend and there will be a lot more than just bragging rights at the dinner table up for grabs.

The Colts (0-1) are coming off a shocking Week 1 loss to their division rival the Houston Texans. The Giants (1-0) are coming off an ugly win at home against a very bad Carolina team. Both teams need a win to keep pace in their respective divisions and silence the many critics who had very little positive commentary about both team’s Week 1 performance.

Kickoff for this night Sunday sports betting matchup is set for 8:20 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Colts as a 5-point favorite with an over/under total at 40.

The Giants struggled in the first half against the Colts are lucky to get the win on a 3 INT day by Eli. He rebounded though in the second half and neutralized the turnovers by tossing 3 TDs as well. The run game, what used to be the meat of this offense, was less than inspiring with just 118 net yards on the day against a very pedestrian Carolina defense.

Nonetheless the Giants got the win even it was thanks mostly to some extraordinary bad QB play by the Panthers (Matt Moore finished with a (32.6 passer rating). And that’s more than the Colts can say.

The Colts got down early to the Texans and couldn’t climb their back despite a masterful performance by Peyton (433 yards, 3 TDs). The offense was clicking after some terrific half-time adjustments but the Colts defense gave the game up on the ground.

Unheralded 2nd year RB Arian Foster shattered records on his way to a 231 yards 3 TD day against a helpless Indy defense. After losing S Bob Sanders, a key component to the run defense and will struggle against New York’s run attack.
The NFL gambling odds makers are likely correct with the pick but the game could be closer than 5 points.
