A new era has begun for the Carolina Panthers and for the first time in recent memory the Carolina Panthers will begin an NFL gambling season without Jake Delhomme under center. The veteran QB was the face of the franchise for a decade and led the team to Super Bowl. But in the ‘what have you done for me lately’ world of the NFL, he was sent packing during the offseason –and with good reason.
Over the past two years Delhomme transformed from one of the better QBs in the NFC into an interception machine. He was no longer able to play QB for the Panthers and the team thinks they’ve found someone who can in Matt Moore. Moore, an unheralded journeyman out of Oregon State University, made the most of his opportunities last year (1,053 yards, 8 TDs and a 98.5 passer rating) to win him the starting job and a new contract.
In the final 4 games that he started he was sharp and Head Coach John Fox has leveraged his job with Moore performing well. He’ll have plenty of talent around him with WR Steve Smith back in action and the two headed monster in the back field of 1,000 yard rushers DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Smith.
The Panthers defense is coming a solid year and should play well again in the 2010 NFL bet odds action if healthy.
On Sunday this team will see what kind of team it really is when it plays against NFC East powerhouse, the New York Giants. The Giants had a rough year in 2009 battling injuries and finishing 8-8. But you’d be crazy to bet against the Giants bouncing back in a big way this year.
QB Eli Manning is still one of the best in the game and he’s got a talented young group of receivers to throw to. If the O-Line holds up this team also has a bruising running game and the defense is healthy once again and should be able to keep opponents out of the end zone.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbgglobal opened with the Giants as a 6.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 41. The Giants should win this sports betting matchup and get off to a good start this season.
