The 2009 NFL gambling season was nightmare for the New York Giants. For a team that was thought to be a Super Bowl contender in the preseason the entire 16-game schedule turned into one debacle after another as the team was ravaged by injuries on both sides of the ball and the club was fortunate to cobble together an 8-8 season.
But that was then and this is now and the Giants have a fully healthy roster as they host the Carolina Panthers in the season opener at their new $1.6 billion dollar football palace.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbg global opened with the Giants as a 6.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 41.
The Panthers are a team that is also looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2009 season against the sports betting lines. The team finally bid farewell to INT machine Jake Delhomme, a difficult move considering his history with the organization, but move that, nonetheless, came about two years too late.
Carolina will now look to journeyman Matt Moore to lead the offense. Moore was impressive in limited action last season in three 8 TDs and just 2 TDs in the final three games he started –all of them wins. He also has a healthy WR Steve Smith to draw double teams down field and the best running tandem in the NFL betting odds competition (RB Jonathan Stewart and RB DeAngelo Williams) in his backfield.
Still, this Moore is unproven and will need some time to adjust. His receiving corps, after Smith, is also horrible and if Smith can’t beat the double team that could cause some serious problems for this offense.
The Giants on the other hand have every reason to be optimistic heading into this season. Their depleted defense of year ago is finally healthy again and the pass rush should be able to get Moore early and often. The secondary should also be whole again and one of the better units in the NFL.
On offense, QB Eli Manning will be throwing to one of the best receiving groups he’s ever had and the running game should be as brutal as ever as RB Ahmad Bradshaw takes over a declining RB Brandon Jacobs.
Giants will win this NFL betting odds matchup in style.
