Two of the most intriguing teams in the NFL gambling action this year are the Washington Redskins and the Houston Texans. And fortunately for football fans these two will square off this weekend in an AFC-NFC matchup what will serve as a litmus test for the entire league.
Fresh off a thrilling season opening win in Week against the hated Cowboys the sky is the limit for this Washington team. With a decent QB (Donovan McNabb) finally under center hopes are high for this team which has generally had a good defense and a good running game but was never a passing threat. It still may not be, after McNabb had very pedestrian day throwing for just 172 yards on 15-32 passing but at least its passing game is in much better shape than it was.
The running game is also suspect after gaining just 89 net rushing yards against the ‘Boys. However, most worrisome is the way that Dallas WR Miles Austin lit the secondary up or 146 yards on 10 catches –a total that would have been even gaudier if not for a TD being called back due to a penalty? If this unit couldn’t handle Austin it will certainly have problems against the NFL’s leading receiver from a year ago (1,500 + yards), Andre Johnson.
The Texans had very few problems in their Week 1 defeat of the very talented Indianapolis Colts and surprisingly, it was the club’s run game that did the damage.
RB Arian Foster nearly shattered the all time NFL opening weekend rushing record with 231 yards on the ground and 3 TDs. He’s not likely to match those numbers this week but he’s given the Washington coaching staff a headache and proven he can put up big numbers. With the running game apparently in place for the Texans it makes the best QB-WR (Matt Schaub and Johnson) tandem in the league last year even more dangerous.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 4:20 Eastern Time and sbg sportsbook opened with the Titans as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 43.5.
With the way the Texans played last week it’s hard not to like their chances in this sports betting matchup.
