If you’re not excited for this year’s NFL betting odds opener than you need to check your pulse. This should be the game of the week as two of the best offenses, two of best QBs and two of the best all around teams go head-to-head when the Minnesota Vikings head to the Big Easy to take on the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans is still celebrating the city’s first championship and you can expect the Super Dome to be rocking as the beloved Saints kick off their title defense. But this week one matchup will be far from a gimme as the Vikings are a legitimate Super Bowl contender and have all the pieces to knock of the Saints in what could be a preview of the NFC Championship game.
This game is obviously dominated by the QB: grizzled vet and holder of every meaningful NFL passing record Brett Favre and gun slinger Drew Brees. Last year these two were the best in the business with Favre putting up some of the best numbers of his career (33 TDs, 7 INTs) and Brees leading the league in TDs (34) and setting an NFL record for completion percentage (70.6%).
Kickoff for this Thursday matchup is set for 8:35 Eastern Time and sbgglobal opened with the Saints as a 4.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 48.
This is a pretty solid line as the Vikings have the potential to be a great team but aren’t quite there yet. At this point in time, heading into the NFL gambling season, the Saints are a better team.
The Vikings offense is far from where it needs to be and that’s why the Saints will win their home opener. Favre has only been with the team several weeks and missed almost all of training camp. He’ll be rusty and the game plan will be somewhat predictable, in that RB Adrian Peterson will do the bulk of the work on offense. Add to this the fact that Sidney Rice, the leading WR on this offense a year ago (1,312, 8TDs) is out for a few months and the Vikings offense could struggle a bit.
The Saints defense has plenty of question marks and Brees won’t have any picnic against the Vikings pass rush, but when it’s all said and done the Saints should come out on top in this NFL betting odds matchup.
