It’s only Week 2 in the NFL betting odds season and already we’re getting some of the meatiest division rivalry games imaginable. Take for example the AFC North’s Ravens versus the Bengals a game that is sure to showcase some great football execution.
But the meatiest of the Week 2 division rivalries has to be the AFC East showdown between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets if for no other reason than the Jets are likely the most hated team in the sports universe right now after the world got a glimpse inside the organization courtesy of HBO’s Hard Knocks series.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 4:20 Eastern Time and sbg global opened with the Patriots as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 38.
During the Week 1 action the Pats looked fantastic in their 38-24 trouncing of a very good Bengals team (the game was not nearly as close as the score indicates). The Jets on the other hand looked very bad in their 9-10 defeat to a very good Ravens squad.
So how does that equate to this NFL gambling matchup?
Well, the Pats probably aren’t quite as good as they looked early in the game as the Bengals came out terribly flat and just couldn’t play their way out of a big hole. If those two teams played again the game would be much closer. And the Jets aren’t nearly as bad as everyone is making them out to be.
Remember, the Ravens are a legitimate playoff team and have a very good defense.
Still the Pats will win this game and that 3-point spread looks very inviting.
Tom Brady looked terrific in Week 1 (25-35, 258 yards, 3 TDs) and could have gotten even bigger stats on the day if they hadn’t shut down the offense in the third quarter.
Against the Jets mighty D he may have to break a sweat but there were some major fissures in New York’s secondary last week (aside from CB Derrelle Revis) and if anyone can exploit them its Brady. The Pats will win this game and cover the sports betting spread.
