NFL betting lines excitement continues to grow as the preseason is in full swing and will include a Saturday night matchup of two top contenders as the Giants host the Steeler sbg global opened with Pittsburgh as a 3-point road favorite with an over/under at 36. Kickoff is at 7:05 PM Eastern and the game can be seen on the NFL Network.
There is plenty of quarterback news involving both teams for this game.
Pittsburgh’s number one quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who will be suspended for the first six games of the season due to a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, will see action against the Giants. Roethlisberger did not play in Pittsburgh’s preseason opener against Detroit which they won 23-7 as 3-point home favorites.
The other two Steeler quarterbacks could be in the midst of a controversy as to who will play those six games that Roethlisberger will miss. Byron Leftwich was originally named as the number two starter but he is being pushed hard by Dennis Dixon. Dixon had the better performance of the two against the Lions as he was 6-7 for 128 yards and 1 touchdown while also picking up an additional 31 yards on the ground.
“I thought he did a nice job,” said Coach Mike Tomlin. “He moved the offense relatively well. I liked his composure and it was a good start for him.”
Leftwich was 6-10 for 43 yards and was not smooth or in rhythm.
“We weren’t clicking very well,” said Leftwich. “That happens in the first preseason game.”
All three quarterbacks could be juggled in and out for the remainder of Pittsburgh’s sports betting exhibition games.
“Ben is going to have opportunities to play in preseason,” said Tomlin. “He’s had an awesome training camp so far.”
Meanwhile Eli Manning left the field of the new Meadowlands Stadium bleeding in the Giants 31-16 preseason opening win over the New York Jets last Monday. Manning’s status was uncertain for this matchup as handicappers betting NFL preseason can expect to see backup Jim Sorgi see most of the action against the Steelers regardless of Manning’s status. Sorgi threw 2 touchdown passes but also was roughed up as he took a hard shot after throwing a 34-yard touchdown pass to Victor Cruz and he complained about a sore shoulder after the game. Third stringer Rhett Bomar looked sharp for the Giants as he was 6-7 for 67 yards with 1 TD.
