When the Cleveland Browns take the field at Raymond James Stadium this week against the home team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sports betting fans will get to see the game of professional football at its worst. These are two very bad teams and they should play a very ugly game on Sunday in the least anticipated matchup of Week 1.
If anyone is interested in watching, kickoff for this Sunday Toilet Bowl is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbgglobal opened with the Bucs as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 37.
This could be the only time all year that Tampa Bay is favored in the betting lines but it’s unlikely you’ll want to celebrate the occasion by dropping any money on the home team because the Cleveland Browns are going to win this game.
Neither of these teams is very talented and they combined to win just 8 games last season (TB 3-13; Cleveland 5-11), but Cleveland is marginally better in terms of both talent and coaching.
Second-year Bucs’ head coach Rahim Morris proved he’s still learning on the job last season but did improve the team’s win total during his season. And Tampa simply doesn’t have the talent to win many games. It has the worst starting QB in the league in Josh Freeman (59.9 QB rating, 10 TDs, 18 INTs in ’09) and protects him very poorly.
One of the relative strengths of this club is its running game, or at least it’s stable of RBs. Still, the O-line is porous and good backs like Cadillac Williams Earnest Graham have to fight for every yard.
Cleveland is certainly not going to set any franchise win records this season but this could be a team that could surprise people and maybe even come close to reaching .500 in a very difficult NFC North division.
New QB Jake Delhomme is hardly a savior but he might just be a step up from what the team has had behind center in the past. The running game shows great promise and if the offense can find a better way to use the talented Josh Cribbs on offense there’s a small reason for hope.
Look for the Browns to kick off the season with a 1-0 record and pull a sports betting upset.
