The most conflicted person in the country as we head into Week 2 of the NFL gambling season must be Olivia Manning. One of only two Manning’s to have never started for an NFL team and mother of both pro bowler Peyton and Eli Manning will have a tough choice to make this week as her two youngest sons battle it out on the grid iron.
Older brother Manning and the Indianapolis Colts will host little brother Eli and the New York Giants in game that will be broadcast nationally on NBC.
Kickoff for this night Sunday matchup is set for 8:20 Eastern Time and sbg sportsbook opened with the Colts as a 5-point favorite with an over/under total at 40.
This should be an incredibly intriguing NFL betting odds matchup for more reasons than the obvious brother on brother action.
After a Week 1 loss to the Texans the Colts find themselves in very unfamiliar territory: 0-1 going into Week 2. This is a team that won its first 12 games last season and could have gone undefeated in the regular season. That may not seem like a big deal but when a team only loses but a few games a year –and never the season opener- it can create a bit of panic in the locker room.
But the Colts have Peyton Manning who nearly singlehandedly beat the Texans last Sunday throwing for 433 yards and 3 TDs in the loss. He had a terrible start to the game but made the necessary adjustments at half time and picked apart the Houston D.
The Colts D couldn’t keep pace however and Arian Foster had a record setting day on his way to 231 yards and 3 TDs on the ground against a soft Colts defense. Worse still, the Colts lost star S Bob Sanders, the team’s primary weapon against the run in what will be a major loss for the team.
The Giants passing attack has been their primary weapon in the recent past (Manning was 20-30 for 263 yards and 3 TDs last week) but they’ll try and replicate the Texans run success against the Colts. With RBs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs sharing duty New York will look to bleed time off the clock and pound Indy’s D into submission.
And it just might work.
Colts will probably win this matchup at home but look for the Giants to beat the sports betting spread of 5 points.
