The New England Patriots and the New York Jets hate each other and that’s part of the reason why this matchup is the NFL gambling game of the week.
The truth is almost every team hates the Jets now but the Pats have hated this team since before it was in style and whenever these AFC East rivals get together something interesting always happens. For year this matchup wasn’t much of a rivalry as the Pats routinely kicked the team in green’s teeth in. But that’s changed in recent years and many people have even picked the Jets to win the division this season.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 4:20 Eastern Time and sbgglobal opened with the Patriots as a very slim 2.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 38.
Anyone who saw the Jets get beat up by the Baltimore Ravens on national TV on Monday night has to have some concerns about this Jets squad going forward. Yes, the defense is very good, but the offense is very bad. The team couldn’t run the ball (116 net yards on the ground), couldn’t pass the ball and the coaching staff showed no confidence in young QB Mark Sanchez’ (74 yards passing) ability to lead this team or put the ball in the air.
Granted, Baltimore’s defense played an all time great game allowing just 6 first downs the whole game but that’s no excuse for how miserable the Jets offense looked.
On defense the NFL’s leading unit from a year ago (14.8 ppg in ’09) looked stout once again holding the Ravens to just 10 points and 282 total yards. But they showed some major cracks in pass defense and aside from CB Derelle Revis who is good in coverage, the rest of secondary got torched in man to man coverage.
That is not what you want to see a week before facing Tom Brady, the QB of the most prolific offense in NFL betting odds history.
Against one of the top defenses in the NFL a year ago (Bengals gave up just 201.1 passing yards per game in ’09) Brady and the offense cut through Cincy’s defense like a hot knife through butter.
Brady & Co. will also have their way with the Jets D and cruise to a sports betting victory.
