The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tennessee Titans have gotten to know each other quite well over the past few NFL betting odds seasons. In 2008 the teams played each other twice: once in the regular season which the Titans and won, and once again in the post season. The Steelers won the playoff matchup and went on to win the Super Bowl.
Last season the teams also squared off in the NFL season opener and played one of the ugliest games in recent memory, with the Steelers edging out the Titans on the scoreboard but neither team was a winner on that day.
This year the two teams will once again square off for the fourth meeting in three seasons. And this time the Titans are the healthy favorite after kicking the stuffing out of the Oakland Raiders 38-14 in the most dominant performance of Week 1 of the NFL gambling action.
Kickoff for this Sunday sports betting matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbg global.com opened with the Titans as a 5.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 38.
However, this betting line is ripe for the taking. At the very least the Steelers should cover this spread and although the Pittsburgh squad may not win this game it should be a low scoring affair and they should be able to come closer than 5.5 points.
The Steelers defense was impressive in their Week 1 opener even if the offense was meager. Pittsburgh scored just three field goals during regulation in what was a completely forgettable performance by the offense. Second year QB Dennis Dixon looked good for most of the game (18-26, 236 yards, 1 INT) but was careless with the ball at times and was fortunate there wasn’t more INTs.
The D will have to do the heavy lifting against the Titans and that will consist primarily of stopping Crazy Legs Chris Johnson. That is easier said than done as Johnson massacred a soft Raiders defense for 124 yards and 2 TDs -even with the entire unit keying on him the whole game.
But the Steelers should be the first team in 12 tries to keep the speedy RB from topping 100 yards on the game and at the very least this Pittsburgh team will cover the NFL gambling spread, if not win this matchup outright.
