The Minnesota Vikings might be one of the favorites to win the 2011 Super Bowl in the NFL gambling odds but so far this team has yet to win to a game in the freshly minted NFL season and will look to post a W in the win column Sunday versus the Miami Dolphins.
he Dolphins aren’t on anybody’s top ten list when it comes to NFL competition but this is a well coached team that despite its talent limitations also seems to get the best out of its players. Its 15-10 Week 1 win over a poor Buffalo squad was emblematic of its “winning ugly” style of play but wins are hard to come by in this league and style points don’t mean anything in the chase for the playoffs. New defensive coordinator Mike Nolan turned in an impressive performance against the Bills as his unit allowed just 50 rushing yards against a talented Buffalo backfield.
However, against the Vikings shutting down the running game and especially Adrian Peterson is easier said than done. The Dolphins D is s bit soft up the middle and a hard charging back like Peterson just might make mince meat of them. And stopping Peterson is just one facet of the plan against the Vikings who have a potentially dangerous passing game as well.
In Week 1 of the NFL betting odds action QB Brett Favre was hardly impressive as he missed several wide open receivers for potentially big games and finished the game with 171 yards. But he’ll no doubt be better with another week of practice under his belt and four quarters of action to learn from.
Expect the Viking game plan on offense to be a bit more aggressive and expect Favre to complete some of the passes he missed in the opener. The Dolphins secondary is highly suspect and if Nolan gets too blitz happy against the wooden Favre he’s going to put tremendous pressure on the Dolphins corners in pass coverage.
When the Vikings are defense they must stop the Fins running game which has two big power backs in Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, and it must keep WR Brandon Marshall in check. These are both realistic goals and the Vikings should win this game.
