The sports betting lines on this top shelf NFL matchup say it all. But when the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles smash helmets in their season opener this weekend the betting lines are just one of many reasons to check out the action.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 4:20 Eastern Time and sbg sportsbook opened with the Packers as a 2.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 47.5.
This matchup looks like slam dunk. Philly is a team with plenty of talent but also plenty of question marks heading into the season. Green Bay is one of the best teams in the league and early front-runner in the Super Bowl odds.
The Pack Attack should have little problems dispatching the Eagles even if they are playing in Philly, home of the most ridiculous football fans in the league. In fact, in this case, the playing in Philly is probably a home field ‘dis-advantage’ for the Eagles and first-year starting QB Kevin Kolb.
Kolb has huge shoes to fill starting for the recently departed Donovan McNabb. Philly fans hated their franchise record-holding QB (McNabb) because he never brought home a Super Bowl Trophy to the City of Brotherly Love. But they’ll realize how much they miss him once Kolb throws a few INTs and the Packers win on Sunday. Unless the Eagles jump out to a quick lead expect the boos to come early and often at the Linc.
Even if Kolb plays well and the offense finds the end zone Green Bay is simply the better team.
QB Aaron Rogers is one of the top three QBs in the league and should put up similar numbers to what he logged in the 2009 NFL gambling action (4,434 yards, 30 TDs, 7 INTs). RB Ryan Grant is often over looked in this highly productive offense but he’s a major part and quietly racked up over 1,200 yards and 11 TDs last year.
On defense the Packers should once again be a top 10 unit in the league. This should also be the difference maker in this week’s NFL betting odds matchup vs. the Eagles.
