The Tennessee Titans will be looking to avoid a similar start to last season when they host the Oakland Raiders in their Week 1 NFL betting odds battle on September 12th. Last year after posting a league best 14-2 record, the team fell in to the pits of despair after losing their first 6 games of the season.
That won’t happen again this year as the Titans will win their home opener and get that monkey off their back early. In fact, this Titan team could be a sleeper this season and if QB Vince Young can stay healthy and the team can pull off a trade for former star DT Albert Haynesworth (a move that has reported to be in the works) this has a huge upside.
Everyone knows about what RB Chris Johnson did last season as he put together one of the best seasons by a RB in NFL history. His 2,006 yards and 14 TDs almost singlehandedly kept this team afloat as it went on a midseason winning streak and salvaged an 8-8 record after that horrendous start.
But the real key to this team’s success in the NFL gambling action is QB Vince Young. Young is now Fantasy Football stat darling but the guy knows how to win and win ugly. He’s not going to throw for 400 yards and 5 TDs but you can be sure that the Titans will be in almost every game they play this season and play well in the 4th quarter when Young’s behind center. A year ago this team was 5th worst in the NFL in defense (25.1 points per game) as it gave up 365.5 yards per game. That will change this year as Coach Jeff Fischer always seems a way to field great defensive units.
The Raiders, coming off a 5-11 season a year ago, have little reason to hope for anything better this year. Al Davis once again will preside over a football circus by the Bay that is short on talent and even shorter on leadership.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 1:05 Eastern Time and sbg opened with the Titans as a 6-point favorite with an over/under total at 40.5.
