The NFC West has been a long-dormant division and arguably the least competitive division in the NFL betting odds competition. But that’s slowly starting to change and there are plenty of reasons to believe that this might actually be one of the liveliest divisions in the NFL this season.
The Seattle Seahawks will host the San Francisco Forty-Niners in what should be a great litmus test for both teams add some clarity to the NFC West title race.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 4:15 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Forty-Niners as a 3-point favorite with an over/under total at 37.
Both of these teams are hoping to improve upon seasons in which neither performed especially well. San Fran is coming off an 8-8 season in 2009 which it hopes to parlay into a winning record this season at the very least.
Seattle limped through an injury-plagued 2009 finishing with an awful 5-11 record. But the team wasn’t as bad as the record indicated and with a monster draft class coming in with several rookies looking to contribute immediately this team will be vastly improved.
The biggest change this season will be the return of a healthy Matt Hasselbeck. He’s still an above average QB if he can stay healthy and with a beefed O-line and running game he should stay upright a lot more this NFL gambling season.
RB Justin Forsett finished the season strong for the Sea Chickens last season and will look to build on that performance.
But there’s plenty of question marks on both sides of the ball for Seattle a team that lost its leading WR (TJ Houshmandzadeh), pass rush specialist Patrick Kearney and it’s sack leader from a year ago (Lawrence Jackson).
The Niners also have some questions of their own, most noteably at the QB position. Alex Smith will once again be behind center as the starter after throwing a career high 18 TDs last season. He’ll have plenty of weapons on offense including TE Vernon Davis (NFL record 13 TDs last season), WR Michael Crabtree and 1,000 yard rusher Frank Gore. This unit could surprise some people if it can stay healthy and Smith can cut down on INTs (12 in ‘09)
On defense this Niners squad has few weaknesses and shut down a rebuilt a Seattle offense on its way to the sports betting win.
