NFL betting lines action for Saturday includes an attractive matchup of two teams that are expecting big improvement this year as the Bears host the Raiders sbg opened with the Chicago Bears as a 2.5-point home favorite against the Oakland Raiders with an over/under of 34. Kickoff is set for 8:35 PM.
The Oakland Raiders are coming off an impressive preseason opening win at Dallas 17-9. Oakland head coach Tom Cable was more impressed with the attitude than anything else.
“The thing that jumped out at me here is we just continue to keep battling,” said Cable. “A lot of things to be excited about, a lot of work to do still, but with the spirit of the team, I think we’re in a place we need to be.”
Oakland is feeling positive vibes about the 2010 season and a big reason is quarterback Jason Campbell, who arrived from Washington to replace the disgraced bust JaMarcus Russell. Campbell has brought a much needed aura of professionalism and dedication that Russell never did and it has caught on with his teammates.
The Bears are coming off a 25-10 sports betting loss at San Diego in their preseason opener but optimism remains high. New offensive coordinator Mike Martz is expected to improve the production of prized quarterback Jay Cutler, who had a bad first season with the Bears after arriving in a trade from Denver.
Another big reason for optimism in Bears camp is the arrival of defensive end Julius Peppers, who along with middle linebacker Brian Urlacher are expected to revive the Bears “Monsters of the Midway” reputation.
“This is a new start,” said Peppers, who was a key member of the Carolina Panthers.
Peppers has the reputation of being a huge talent with a questionable work ethic. He is looking to change that perception in 2010. “I hear it all the time,” said Peppers. “If that’s something that people believe, I have to prove them wrong. All I can do is try to perform and silence the critics.”
Urlacher is returning after missing the 2009 season due to a hand injury and his comeback is a reason for optimism with those betting NFL preseason games with the Bears.
Cutler threw 27 touchdown passes and 26 interceptions but is expected to have a better ratio with Martz’s guidance this year.
“Me and Mike have clicked very quickly,” said Cutler. “We have the same goals in mind.”
