There’s no love lost between these two bitter NFC East rivals and this NFL betting odds matchup should look more like a rough and tumble playoff game than a season opener. The Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins have beaten each other twice a year on Sundays for decades and even if the Cowboys have gotten the better of their division foes over the years, it’s never an easy game for either team.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and sbg opened with the Cowboys as a 3.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 40.
This highly anticipated game is one of the feature games of Week 1 and will be NBCs Sunday Night Game of the Week.
The rivalry alone is reason enough to tune in but the Redskin debut of Pro Bowl QB Donovan McNabb should make this game even more interesting. McNabb will be leading an offense that has always seemed to be on the cusp of greatness if it could only get a QB. Now that it has one, expectations are high and the pressure is on.
The Skins have traditionally had a bruising running game that is coming off an injury riddled and year in which it averaged just 94.3 yards per game. A healthy Clinton Portis and Charles Johnson will share carries and look to return some prestige to this rushing group.
McNabb’s weapons at receiver are somewhat limited but veteran WR Santonio Moss and TE Chris Cooley are talented receivers and this unit should benefit not only from McNabb but new coach Mike Shannahan’s offensive scheme as well.
The question mark for the Skins heading into this NFL gambling matchup is the defense line, or more specifically DT Albert Haynesworth. If he plays to his potential he’s a game changer and can singlehandedly shut down a running game. But he may not even see the field as he continually finds new and interesting ways to aggravate his head coach.
The Cowboys are simply one of the best teams in football. The Tony Romo led offense will always find a way to score. The defense was the second best in the league season and should right back at the top this season.
There’s plenty of reason to be excited for the Skins in this season opener but the Cowboys are still the better team and should win this sports betting matchup.
