Love them or hate them there is no denying that the Dallas Cowboys are one of the best teams in the NFL gambling competition. This so-called ‘America’s Team’ was among the best in the league on both sides of the NFL during the regular season. However, the only thing that most football fans remember about this Tony Romo led team is the fact that they always fall short in the playoffs.
When the 2010 version of the Cowboys take the field against the Washington Redskins on September 12th to open the new season that’s all people will be thinking about. Despite putting up nearly 400 yards a game on offense (399.4) and holding opponents to just 15.6 points per game (2nd best in the NFL) during the regular season, it all meant nothing as they bounced in the first round of the playoffs…again.
Even within those numbers we can see some of the team’s short-comings. The team averaged the 2nd highest yards total per game but ranked 14th in points per game. Missed opportunities and failure to execute when it counts have plagued this team under Romo’s tenure.
But don’t expect that to prevent this team from winning the season opening NFL gambling matchup against the Redskins.
The Redskins are coming off a 4-12 season. This is a better team than that record would indicate and much of the futility has to do with Jim Zorn’s ineptitude as a coach and former QB Jason Campbell’s shortcomings as a passer. But even the addition of proven QB Donovan McNabb this team is still not of the same caliber as the Cowboys.
The Skins scored just 266 points last season while giving up 336 to opponents. This equation will be somewhat more balanced with the addition of McNabb and improved health of weapons like TE Chris Cooley, but there’s only so much that can be done. The defense still has issues and if DT Albert Haynesworth isn’t in top form (which he isn’t heading into the opener) this unit will struggle.
Kickoff for this Sunday matchup is set for 8:25 Eastern Time and sbg global sportsbook opened with the Cowboys as a 3.5-point favorite with an over/under total at 40. Look for the ‘Boys to win this sports betting matchup.
