On paper Monday’s World Cup betting match between Spain and Honduras may not look like much, but it very well could be the most important World Cup odds matchup in Spanish football betting history.
That might sound like World Cup betting hyperbole, but it’s not. After dropping the first match in the 2010 World Cup odds competition 1-0 to the Swiss, Spain now finds itself in a very unpleasant position in Group H. With one game in the bag for each team in the group Spain finds itself in last place, tied with tiny Honduras with 0 points, while Switzerland and Chile sit atop Group H with 3 points apiece.
Spain’s 2010 World Cup betting campaign is hardly over, but its quest to win the country’s first World Cup betting title just got considerably harder. In a deceptively talented group Spain will most likely have to salvage two wins in a row in next two games against Honduras and Chile in the World Cup betting competition.
On paper, the European Champion should have little trouble dispatching Honduras; in fact Spain’s second unit should probably be able to defeat the Honduran team in any soccer betting matchup. But the World Cup betting competition is not just ‘any’ soccer betting matchup and the pressure to perform can be enormous. Spain entered the World Cup competition as the 4/1 favorite to win it all but it’s opening game upset has raised plenty of questions about this team’s ability to perform on the biggest stage in sports betting.
Nonetheless, Spain can still reclaim its’ favored status in the World Cup betting odds with a convincing win versus Honduras and by going on to win Group H.
Honduras is one of the worst teams in the World Cup competition and aside from striker David Souza there’s not a lot of top flight talent. If Spain can calm gown, regroup and go out and play the way this team of capable of they will thrash the Hondurans.
Spain is still the heavy favorite in the World Cup odds to win this game at 7/1 odds. Honduras is a major long shot at 53/1 and an awfully crazy bet to make.
Look for Spain to come out firing and put a beat down on its Central American opponent.
