The San Antonio Spurs made mince meat of the white hot Mavericks in the opening round of the basketball betting playoffs. The Phoenix Suns dispatched a hobbled Portland Trailblazer squad in what turned out to be a much closer series than many NBA odds makers originally predicted.
Based on first round NBA playoff betting results there should be little doubt that Spurs are favored team in the NBA odds. But the NBA playoff betting competition can be funny. And just when it seems like everything is all sorted out on paper the ball is tipped and the NBA betting action takes a completely different direction than what you would expect.
The Spurs (50-32) are an elderly team and struggled at times during the 82-game regular season. But the team has acquired plenty of wisdom on its way to old age (not to mention 4 NBA betting titles) and it now knows what it needs to in this shortened NBA playoff season. Even without former NBA betting MVP Tim Duncan playing his best series the Spurs easily dispatched the more talented Mavs squad in the first round of the NBA playoff betting.
That has to be a bit unsettling for the Suns. Phoenix is a good team, but not a great team and if it struggled with the crippled Blazers it’s really going to have its hands full with the Spurs. Steve Nash is the engine for the Suns and he’ll have a very tough series going against the two-headed monster of Tony Parker and George Hill, both of whom had a strong series against Dallas.
He’ll have to play up to his normal fantastic level of play and cannot afford to have even one off game during this NBA playoff betting series. The wildcard in this basketball betting series will be All Star Amare Stoudemire. He had a very quiet series against the Blazers but the Suns are to have any shot in this series he’s got to have a big impact.
Expect Stoudemire to struggle at times versus the wily veteran Duncan but also to have a few good games as well. Still, the Suns are not a great team and the Spurs, even though their ancient, are playing like a great team right now. Spurs will win Game 1 and go to take this NBA betting series.
