The San Antonio Spurs executed almost to perfection in many ways during the Game 1 NBA betting playoff series against the Phoenix Suns and yet they still found themselves on the wrong side of a 111-103 Suns NBA playoff betting victory. So it can’t be all that encouraging knowing that the team played the game it wanted to play, for the most part, but still failed to win.
But the well-seasoned Spurs aren’t likely to panic heading into Game 2 of this NBA playoff betting series. They know that one game in a best of seven basketball betting series isn’t going to make or break their NBA betting post season and there are several areas that the team can improve upon heading into Game 2.
The Spurs got killed in transition against the run and gun Suns and this will the Achilles heel of San Antonio this entire basketball betting series. The Spurs are not a good team at getting up and down the court, but they are a good defensive team and can do a much better job of getting back on the break. San Antonio is one of the best coached teams in the NBA odds action and you can be sure they will better at this in Game 2.
The Suns on the other hand are going to continue to try and exploit the Spurs weakness in the transition game and with PG Steve Nash free to direct traffic the Suns are going to have a very good opportunity to take Game 2 at home. Nash blew up the Spurs defense for 33 points and 10 assists in the first game of this playoff betting matchup.
George Hill will have to do a better job on Nash if the Spurs want to head back to San Antonio with the NBA playoff betting series evened up. The Spurs typically allow Nash some scoring freedom but if he gets 33 and 10 every game this will be a Suns sweep. The Spurs Big 3 (Duncan, Ginobli, Parker) were excellent in Game 1 and should put up big number again in Game 2. Look for Hill to tighten up a bit on Nash and hold his points total down. If he can accomplish this the Spurs will win Game 2 in this NBA betting matchup.
