In game three the Suns down 2-0 where desperate for a win and had to do something to overcome the fast scoring LA Lakers offense so they set up their own type if zone defense which normally would not have an affect on the LA Lakers but for some reason it did and they could not overcome it. This is one of the few times a zone defense has been seen in the NBA playoff even though it became legal to use a zone defense in the NBA starting in the 2001 – 2002 NBA Season.
