It should come as little surprise to most college basketball betting fans that the Big East has dominated the NCAA odds this season. For the past several season no team has been as successful or as dominant as the Big East, a conference that scatters up to half a dozen teams among the top 25 rankings throughout the season.
Yet in the conference’s half decade reign atop the college basketball betting it hasn’t brought home an NCAA odds championship since UConn won in 2004, and at that point in time the conference wasn’t even at the top of the food chain. In other words, for all the hype and all the regular season success teams from this conference have choked at the Big Dance.
This year should be different. This year the Big East has had many teams high in the rankings but could enter the college basketball betting tournament without a single #1 seed. And that small slight could prove the motivation these teams need to break free in the NCAA odds.
But more importantly there are a handful of excellent teams in the conference and we’re likely to see at six in the NCAA odds tournament. With so many teams in the running the odds that a big East team will win the title are greatly enhanced.
Also several traditional powerhouse programs and conferences are having off years, which further opens the doors for a possible Big East champion. Anyway you look at it the Big East is loaded with talent and has failed to live up its billing in recent years, but it’s simply too good a conference not to win a title and this could be the year.
