When you think of college basketball betting powerhouse conferences you think of the PAC 10, the Big East, the Big 10 the ACC …but the Mountain West? True, this isn’t a traditional big name NCAA odds conference but there are a couple of top teams out West this year that could make some noise and go deep into the NCAA odds March action.
Right now two of the top 13 teams in all of college basketball reside in the little known Mountain West and will be looking to surprise some people when the Madness of March sets in.
New Mexico leads the charge with a mighty impressive 26-3 record overall and a 12-2 record in the conference. Those dazzling stats have caught the eye of the college basketball betting voters and the Lobos have been rewarded with a #10 ranking. If the team continues its run and can win the conference it’s likely to receive a #2 seed in the Tournament and that would mean a not so difficult run to the Sweet 16.
But not far behind in the rearview mirror is a feisty BYU team that is arguably an even better team and is ranked behind the Lobos simply because it’s lost more recently than New Mexico. With an identical 26-3 record overall the Cougars are 11-2 in conference and ranked #13 in the land.
In head to head competition the Lobos came out victories against the Cougs at home. But overall the New Mexico has defeated all four top-25 ranked teams it’s played. BYU has lost its only game against a top-25 when it lost to New Mexico.
But the argument as to which is better could be settled this Saturday when BYU hosts the Lobos.
