The most compelling story right now in the competition to reach the Stanley Cup betting action is the meteoric rise of the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL playoff betting competition. During the NHL hockey betting regular season the Habs impressed no one, but as soon as they clinched a spot in the NHL postseason betting action this team has flipped a switch and is playing out of its head. It’s pushed the regular season points leaders, the Washington Capitals, to a decisive Game 7 hockey betting showdown and both teams Stanley Cup odds hopes rest on the result of tonight’s game.
The Canadiens are the team that that the rest of the hockey betting public –and certainly the Stanley Cup odd makers- forgot about. After limping through the NHL betting regular season with this squad barely snuck into the NHL playoff betting action on the very last day of the season with just 88 points (39-33-10). The team’s point total is the lowest of any of the 16 teams featured in the NHL playoff betting action and so it seems only fitting that they drew the top team in the NHL, the Caps yet.
Yet it’s the Caps who seem to have been punished –not rewarded- for their stellar NHL regular season results as they’ve been pushed to the hockey betting brink by this petulant #8 seed.
The Caps will be favored in the hockey betting odds and have the benefit of playing at home. They also have some guy named Ovechkin who just happens to be the best hockey player on the planet. But based on how the previous six NHL playoff betting matchups between these teams have played out, there’s little reason to expect that these will that great of an advantage for the Caps.
The key to the Canadiens success has been the ridiculous play of goal keeper Jaroslav Halak who has single-handedly made the NHL playoff betting action a nightmare for the Ovechkin and his teammates. He must continue his stingy play in the net for the Habs to win this game and come one step closer to realizing its Stanley Cup betting dreams.
In the playoffs, goal tending is key and generally trumps great scoring. So Halak can put together another outstanding 1-goal game or even a shutout, Montreal will advance.
