It seems like only yesterday that the Montreal Canadiens were the toast of hockey betting with their superstar goalie Jaroslav Halak and supreme goal scorer Mike Cammallerie booking them a ticket in the Stanley Cup betting finals. But things can change, and change quickly in the world of NHL odds the #8 seed Habs are now struggling for their NHL playoff betting life after falling into a 0-2 hole against the #7 seed Philadelphia Flyers.
After dispatching the #1 seed Washington Capitals (54-15-13) and the defending Stanley Cup betting champion Pittsburgh Penguins (47-28-7) it looked as if there was nothing that could stop the Habs from reaching the Stanley Cup Finals betting action. Goalie Halak was unflappable in the goal and held hockey betting giants like Sidney Crobsy and Alex Ovechkin at bay over a 14 game stretch.
And Cammallerie emerged as the most deadly assassin in the NHL playoff betting scoring 12 goals in 14 games. But both of those players have gone into hockey betting hibernation during the Eastern Conference Finals betting action and have been desperately missed. The Habs have yet to score a goal in this Stanley Cup betting series and Cammallerie has been all but neutralized.
On defense Halak has gone from being an unstoppable force to giving up an average of 4.5 goals a game and even being pulled mid way through the 2nd period in Game 1. Granted the Philly forwards are doing a terrific job of blocking the net and getting in his sight lines but that doesn’t change the fact that nine goals have been scored against the Habs in two games of this NHL playoff betting series.
If the Canadiens are going to make any kind of comeback in this NHL betting series and make a series bid to reach the Stanley Cup betting Finals, Cammallerie and Halak have to start playing at the same level they did during the first two rounds of the NHL playoff betting action. There is no other consistent source of offense for the Habs after Cammallerie and there is no way this team wins if Halak allows four or more goals a game. Game 3 will be a true hockey betting test for this team and these two players. If they don’t step up, the NHL betting season is over for Montreal.
