The Phoenix Suns started off Round 2 of the NBA betting playoffs just like they wanted to as they dispatched the San Antonio Spurs 111-102 at home in Game 1. The Suns executed their game plan perfectly and Steve Nash having a monster night and Jason Richardson playing as well as he has during the 2010 NBA playoff betting action it was nearly perfect night for the team.
And yet, as well as the team played it still nearly lost this NBA betting matchup which was much closer than the final score indicated. The Spurs came raging back to a double-digit lead to just one point in the fourth quarter. But Nash was all but unstoppable and his 33 points, many in the fourth quarter, are what put the Suns over the top and gave them the 1-0 lead in this NBA playoff betting series.
The Spurs also played well, but were beaten badly in transition points, which isn’t a big surprise considering the Spurs are ancient and one of the worst running teams in the NBA odds action. But the Spurs generally execute their game plan better than any other team in the NBA betting action and coach Popovich has to be disappointed that his defenders didn’t get back faster.
Game 2 will be a real test of these team’s competitive desire and probably take on a much different complexion than the first game of this NBA playoff betting matchup. The Spurs will all but certainly get back better on D and limit the Suns fast break opportunities. However, expect Steve Nash to have another big scoring night, or at least a lot more shots than NBA betting fans are accustomed to seeing him take.
The Spurs always play him this way, preferring that he beat them with this shot and not by dishing the ball. Nash is a fine shooter and will like 30+ points up in Game 2 but so long as the Spurs can keep his assist total down they feel like they have a good shot at winning this NBA betting matchup.
But it the Spurs are going to win they have to get more offensive production from their secondary players. Ginobli, Duncan and Parker all went for 20+ in Game 1 but no one else on the squad broke double-digits. That will change in Game 2 of this NBA basketball betting matchup and the Spurs will head back to San Antonio with playoff betting series tied 1-1.
