The Spurs and the Mavericks will tip off Game 5 of their first round Western Conference NBA Betting playoffs series tonight at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBA TV. Despite holding 9 and 14-point second half leads in Games 3 and 4, the Mavs weren’t able to come away with a win in San Antonio. Now, they face a daunting 3-1 deficit.
It appears the desperate and prideful Spurs will beat the Mavericks tonight, forcing a Game 6 Friday night at American Airlines Center. Why? Because home teams down 3-1 always win Game 5 and because Greg Popovich has won 75 percent of his games when facing elimination, best all-time. And because there’s that nagging “internal devil” thing with the Mavs. Down 3-1 is certainly a situation that the No. 2 seed in the West did not expect itself to be in.
The Mavericks were the best road team in the NBA betting odds during the regular season, and it was also recognized as one of the deeper teams in the league heading into the playoffs. However, it was not able to steal a game in San Antonio to even the series.
But if anyone knows that this series is far from over, it should be the Mavs. After all, they had a two-game lead on the Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals, and the Heat won four straight games to win the title. Dallas will be asked to win three in a row in order to move on to round two.
