The Washington Capitals have been the best team over the course of the NHL betting regular season by a wide margin, but that has hardly been the case ever since the post season road to the Stanley Cup betting finals has gotten underway.
The Caps won the Southeast Division, wrapped up home ice advantage through the NHL playoff betting action and finished with the best record in sports betting (54-15-13; 121 points). They entered the NHL betting postseason as the heavy favorites in the Stanley Cup betting action and looked set to coast into a second round NHL playoff betting matchup with defending Stanley Cup betting champs, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
But ever since the NHL post season betting action begins; it’s been a long hard slog for the Caps. In game one against the #8 Montreal Canadiens (39-33-10) the Caps were blown off the ice. Things got so bad that superstar Alex Ovechkin didn’t even get a shot on goal; just the fourth time that’s happened in the NHL career of the former scoring champ and the first time its ever happened to him in the NHL playoff betting action.
But Washington bounced back in Game 2 evening the playoff betting series at 1-1 and then went ahead in the NHL playoff betting series 2-1, with a hard fought win in Game 3.
The Caps look to have found their footing now in the NHL betting race for the Stanley Cup and a big reason for that is Ovechkin. After being blanked in Game 1 of his hockey betting series he’s bounced back admirably with 2 goals and 3 assists in the last two games. Nickolas Backstrom has also been on top of his game and with these firing on all cylinders it’s not a matter of ‘if’ but rather ‘when’ the Caps will win this NHL playoff betting series.
Most likely the Caps will win Game 4 on the road in Montreal and then wrap up the series with a victory in Game 5 of the NHL betting series at home in Washington. And if that comes to pass, NHL betting fans should get ready for an epic playoff betting matchup between the Pens and Caps in round two of the NHL playoff wagering action.
