Calvin Borel and Super Saver will look to keep Triple Crown hopes alive on Saturday in the 135th running and betting of the Preakness Stakes odds. The Kentucky Derby winner is the 5-2 morning line favorite in a field of 12. Borel won the Preakness last year aboard Rachel Alexandra and this time he will look to win with Super Saver.

The Preakness betting fans will get a much different race than the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago. The weather should be good and the field will be smaller. Four horses that raced in the Derby will challenge Super Saver including Lookin at Lucky who is the 3-1 second choice in Preakness odds. Lookin at Lucky had a troubled trip in the Derby and after two straight troubled trips (he was banged around in the Santa Anita Derby), trainer Bob Baffert made a jockey change going with Martin Garcia instead of Garrett Gomez. It will be the first Preakness mount for Garcia while Gomez will ride for D. Wayne Lukas aboard Dublin. Terry Thompson, who was aboard Dublin in the Derby will ride Lukas’ other horse, Northern Giant.
Ice Box, who was second in the Kentucky Derby will not race in the Preakness stakes betting battle as trainer Nick Nito will save him for the Belmont. Zito will have Jackson Bend though who was 12th in the Derby. Third place Kentucky Derby finisher Paddy O’Prado is the 9-2 third choice in Preakness odds. Many bettors believe the shorter distance of the Preakness will suit Paddy O’Prado.
There will be seven newcomers who did not race in the Kentucky Derby. Schoolyard Dreams has already beaten Super Saver this year and he could be a real threat at odds of 15-1. California horse Caracortado is 10-1 in Preakness odds and he could go to the lead on Saturday with jockey Paul Atkinson.
Super Saver is trained by Todd Pletcher who has never won the Preakness. That streak could end though just as his Kentucky Derby drought ended two weeks ago. Pletcher will also have Aikenite in the race. Here is the field for Saturday’s Preakness with post position, name, trainer, jockey and morning line odds.
