Everyone knows about huge upset the Montreal Canadiens pulled over of the Washignotn Caps in Round One of the Stanley Cup betting action. And all the hockey wagering fans have surely heard of how hot Sydney Crosby and the defending Stanley Cup champion Penguins have been. And the Habs vs Pens matchup is the series that is getting all the online betting attention.
But there’s another NHL playoff series going in the Eastern Conference right now and it could very well be the best kept secret in hockey betting right now. The Boston Bruins (39-30-13) surprised much of the hockey betting universe by dispatching of the Buffalo Sabres in the opening round of the Stanley Cup betting action. The Philadelphia Flyers (41-35-6) also pulled off a big time upset over its NHL playoff opening opponent.
The New Jersey Devils were highly favored in the hockey odds, yet it’s the Flyers that are playing Monday night in Boston. This NHL playoff betting matchup isn’t nearly as sexy as the other Eastern Conference playoff matchup. In the Habs vs Pens series you have the biggest Cinderella story in hockey betting in years (the Canadiens) and the biggest superstar in the NHL betting odds (Crosby). There is no way that these to no frills teams can compete with that type of action.
But it doesn’t matter because whichever team wins in the Boston vs Philly matchup gets a berth in the Eastern Conference betting finals just the same. The Bruins took the first game of this NHL playoff betting series and you have to like their chances in Game 2 as well. Philly is not a good road team (17-21-3) and the Boston Garden will be rocking. The Bruins are limited squad in terms of talent.
The team doesn’t score a great deal and nor its roster overly blessed with great players. But it plays physical, it puts a body on players and it checks better than any team left in NHL playoff betting. And even though it may look like this team is a bunch of out of control brawlers, it actually has one of the most disciplined defenses in the NHL betting odds. Bruins will take Game 2.
