Xaviers First Team All Conference Guard has been facing the spotlight since being known, “as the guy who dunked on Lebron James.” He has helped carry the Musketeers to their third straight Sweet 16 matchup. Thursday night they face their most difficult challenge of the season against the rough and tough Kansas State Wildcats. Xavier entered their fifth straight NCAA Tournament Odds with a different look, in a new Coach Chris Mack and a team led by a “You Tube Sensation” like Crawford in the first round dropped five three-pointers on his way to 28 points and a win over Minnesota and he continued his streak and was perfect from the line in the win over Pittsburgh.
On the other hand Kansas State waited through two overtimes of March Madness to tip of the game their first round game with the North Texas Mean Green Eagles. This was only their second NCAA Tournament appearance in 15 years. Early in the first half the Wildcats began relying on their defense to turn into offense and capped a led that gave them a 82-62 win over the Green Eagles. In the Second game K-State was not intimidated by BYU and their sharp shooting Jimmer Fredette holding him to 21 points while they flexed their offense with 34 points from Jacob Pullen. In evaluating the outcome, The Kansas State Wildcats can win if they are able to use their tough defense to create turnovers. Not the most talented team, but if anything their toughness has shown through in the first weekend and the hustle plays on every possession will be necessary to take Kansas State to the Elite 8. The Xavier Musketeers on the other hand can win if they get another “out of this world” performance from Jordan Crawford. He is by no means the only thing that makes the Musketeers tick, but he certainly will be needed for a big game in order to knock off the Wildcats squad. The hype is binding, but we can see this game as being one of the most entertaining of the Sweet Sixteen Dance, and it probably will be decided on the last possession of the game.
